Combining The Triangle and Sandbanks Day Services

Closes 19 Dec 2019

Opened 5 Nov 2019

Overview

Hounslow Council is consulting on the future delivery of day services.

Over recent years the council has made substantial savings, so far these have been without major impact on the delivery of services. We not only continue to maximise our resources and minimise costs in order to protect them for future years, but also to ensure where possible services are improved.

On this basis we are proposing to remodel our existing day service provisions into one combined day centre to be delivered from Sandbanks, a 6-year-old purpose-built day centre.

It is the council's view that Sandbanks day facility is currently underused and could provide residents from The Triangle with a host of significant improvements, greater accessibility, enhanced facilities with an increase in open space inside and out. Sandbanks day service would also continue to meet the needs of People with Dementia.

Full details of the proposal are available in the Cabinet Report.

About This Consultation:

The council is consulting with residents, parents, relatives and other stakeholders. While we are putting forward two options for consideration, our preferred option is to combine the Triangle Resource Centre and Sandbanks Day Centre into one service.

Currently, Sandbanks provides a Day Centre service for people with dementia, and the Triangle provides a Day Centre service for adults with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, ASD and behaviour that can challenge,

The Council’s proposal is that these services are combined and delivered from Sandbanks Day Centre, Beattie Close, Feltham, TW14 9RR, with the Triangle Resource Centre closing.

We are committed to protecting vital services and making sure our residents receive the appropriate care and support they need. Those residents who attend both centres travel from across the borough and there will be no loss of service for current residents as a result of this proposal.

Options

There are two options for consideration:

Option 1 – Combining the Triangle Resource Centre and Sandbanks Day Centre into one site based at Sandbanks Day Centre

This option would mean the closure of the Triangle Resource Centre and the relocation of residents to Sandbanks Day Centre to offer a combined day service provision.

This is the council's preferred option as the council believes the facilities available at Sandbanks are a great improvement and more conducive to meeting the high and complex needs of the Triangle Residents. The reduced costs of using one centre as opposed to two would help minimise cost expenditure and increase efficiencies without any reductions in the standards of care provided.

The Sandbanks Day Centre is based across two large ground floor rooms, with significant outside space meaning the remodelled provision offered would be accessible for all residents in attendance. There are modernised changing facilities, a therapy room and excellent ICT facilities across the centre including access to a large screen and projectors in both rooms. There is a hair and beauty salon where podiatry, nail manicures and a hairdresser are available.

Combining the two services together would also mean an enhanced timetable of activities to both client groups- including yoga, music therapy, sensory gardening, cooking and therapeutic animal care.

Option 2 – Retain two building-based day services

Under this option we would only carry out essential repairs and maintenance to the Triangle Resource Centre but we would continue to accept new residents to both day centres. There are limited spaces for referrals for wheelchair users at the Triangle Resource Centre due to capacity and fire regulations within the building.

Please see background information, under related documents for further related information on the centres.
