What is the Local Flood Risk Management Strategy (LFRMS)?
The LFRMS sets out a strategy for the management of different types of flood risk across Hounslow. It is produced every six years or when there is a significant change in flood risk legislation. The previous LFRMS for the London Borough of Hounslow was published in 2015.
Why is the Local Flood Risk Management Strategy required?
Climate change is an undeniable fact. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Sixth Assessment Report predicts flooding is likely to become more frequent, intense and severe.
In July 2021, Hounslow had 30-40mm of rainfall, equivalent to almost a month’s worth in some locations across London.
With Heathrow Airport's effect on increasing rates of urban development and environmental pressures, Hounslow's need for a robust strategy to manage flood risk and increase the population's resilience has never been greater.
What are the Expected Outputs of the Local Flood Risk Management Strategy?
The full LFRMS document and associated appendices are available as attachments at the foot of this page.
We strongly recommend that you read the documentation, with particular reference to the LFRMS and its Action Plan, to be able to answer the questions.
We're carrying out this consultation to hear your views on the LFRMS. We welcome feedback and comments that can help inform our LFRMS.
It is vital that in a changing environment, our community can understand and influence our processes and successfully shape the final outcomes. This approach will ensure we are able to act on its feedback, where possible, in the most appropriate manner.
You can also submit your comments to us in writing by email or post - please send any comments (quoting: ‘LFRMS Consultation') to: flooding@hounslow.gov.uk, or by post to the following address: Lead Local Flood Authority, Hounslow House, 7 Bath Road, Hounslow TW3 3EB
