We are seeking your views to inform how we can improve your experience and service of the nine cemeteries and four churchyards we manage in the borough.

The draft cemetery strategy (2019 - 2029) will help determine the future direction of your services. We know they are important to you.

M·E·L Research, an independent market research company, is carrying out the consultation on behalf of the London Borough of Hounslow.

Please read the draft strategy at the bottom of the page before responding to this survey.

Why We Are Consulting

The draft cemetery strategy sets out key guiding principles and outcomes in the following areas:

Vision 1: The Council will seek to develop and implement better polices to secure the continued protection of our cemeteries and burial provision for present and future generations of our residents.

Vision 2: Hounslow cemeteries will continue to provide sufficient burial capacity for its residents and to meet its diverse community needs.

Vision 3: To have an accessible and modernised service for all, and for maintenance of cemetery grounds and assets to be safe and welcoming.

Vision 4: Our cemeteries to be an integral part of the green infrastructure and contribute to the borough’s habitat and heritage value.

Vision 5: For Hounslow cemeteries to remain affordable and self sufficient.

More Information

Many of our cemeteries need investment and modernisation. This forward-looking cemetery strategy is to provide guidance for the next 10 years so that we continue to meet the ever-changing needs of our community and ensure we have capacity for the next generation. We recognise there are personal preferences of burial choice which are sometimes based on faith and cultural needs that we want to understand better as well as the special interest cemeteries have in terms of heritage and environment.
To respond to this challenge, we will have to do things differently. We will have to prioritise and re-design our cemetery services and look at different ways to manage and fund them. We also have an ambition to improve the quality of our facilities and services. This is a significant challenge when budgets are reducing. We have drafted a new cemetery strategy which sets out how we may do this. It contains draft priorities across four main themes.
The cemetery strategy outlines the Council’s high level vision and priorities for this services for the next 10 years (2019 - 2029). It is the framework to guide future decisions about cemetery services.
The Council is undergoing significant changes which have also impacted on our cemetery services. Having brought many of Carillion services into Lampton Greenspace 360, a more customer-focused approach to the service is needed which is flexible enough to adapt to the challenging issues facing our cemeteries such as financial savings, limited burial capacity and an increase in diverse communities with broader faith and religious needs.
