Parents/Carers Survey - following Joint SEND Inspection

Closes 22 Jul 2022

Opened 13 Jun 2022

Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) recently carried out a joint inspection of the effectiveness of special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) in the London Borough of Hounslow.  The inspection was carried out between Monday 28 February to Friday 4 March 2022 and focused on evaluating the London Borough of Hounslow’s effectiveness in:

  • identifying the needs of children and young people with SEND
  • meeting the needs of these children and young people so that their outcomes and chances of participating fully in society improve.

You can access the full report from the inspection here

As a result of the inspection findings, the Local Area is required to produce a Written Statement of Action (WSOA). The local authority and the area’s clinical commissioning group are jointly responsible for submitting the written statement to Ofsted.

The WSOA will need to show how it will tackle the following areas of significant weakness:

  1. Poor quality of Education, Health and Care plans, including preparing children and young people for adulthood
  2. Poor communication and a lack of co-production with partners, including the workforce, parents, carers, young people and other stakeholders
  3. Weak commissioning arrangements for therapies, meaning that some children and young people do not get the help they need early enough. In addition, there are unacceptable waiting times for some therapeutic assessment and support, including speech and language therapy and occupational therapy.
  4. Weak quality assurance processes to evaluate the area’s work to bring about improvements across education, health and care.
