Cycle Parking Bikehangars 22/23 - Proposed New Sites

Closed 14 Nov 2022

Opened 17 Oct 2022

Overview

As part of the council’s commitment to increase levels of cycling in the borough, we provide residents with the opportunity to apply for cycle parking in the form of a bikehangar. Bikehangars offer secure cycle parking for residents in areas where the ability to safely store bikes within a property, or the front/rear garden is limited.

The council covers the installation cost of new bikehangar and also provides a 50% subsidy on the cost of renting spaces. Therefore, the annual rental fee per year is £36 per space, with each hangar providing space for six bikes. A bikehangar’s dimensions are as follows: 2.5m (length) x 2m (width/depth) x 1.4m (height), approximately the size of half a car parking space.

Two sites, Duke Road and Riverview Grove have been previously consulted on before, but received a mixed response to the consultation, alongside suggestions of alternative locations. Both sites still have a degree of support for a bike hangar and there is rental demand. Due to constraints on budget at the time, these locations were not considered as part of the 2020/21 programme of works. However, the Council has decided to reconsult on these two locations.

To view the plans, please click on the road names, which are highlighted, in the paragraph below.

Bikehangar Sites

Duke Road, Chiswick: The location chosen is to support where demand and the requests originally came from.

Eastbourne Road, Brentford: The location chosen is to support where demand and the requests originally came from. This parking bay is chosen, as a bike hangar only takes half a car parking space, thus minimising the impact of parking on the road.

Oxford Gardens, Chiswick: A section of single yellow line has been selected in order to reduce impact on parking.

Riverview Grove, Chiswick: The location chosen is to support where demand and the requests originally came from. This is off the public highway to avoid removing car parking spaces.

Stamford Brook Avenue, Chiswick: Due to high demand and a nearby hangar having reached maximum capacity, another bikehangar is proposed on the southern end of Stamford Brook Avenue. The proposed location is situated within a parking bay to support residents at Linkenholt Mansion. This parking bay is chosen, as a bike hangar only takes half a car parking space, thus minimising the impact of parking on the road.

Sutherland Road, Chiswick: Due to high demand and a nearby hangar having reached maximum capacity on its neighbouring road, Paxton Road, a hangar is being proposed at Sutherland Road. The proposed location is situated within a parking bay nearby the location of the original request. This parking bay is chosen, as a bike hangar only takes half a car parking space, thus minimising the impact of parking on the road.

Wood Street, Chiswick: Due to high demand and two nearby hangars on Ashbourne Grove having reached maximum capacity, a hangar is being proposed at Wood Street. This parking bay is chosen, as a bike hangar only takes half a car parking space, thus minimising the impact of parking on the road.
