The Blue School – School Streets

In recent years, the council has stepped up its efforts to tackle problems associated with traffic around schools at drop-off and pick-up times, notably road safety concerns, poor air quality and inconvenience to residents.

Following successful implementations of School Streets schemes in other parts of the borough, and discussions with The Blue School and local councillors, we are now consulting on a proposal to implement a School Streets scheme in your area.

The access restriction, which will cover North Street, between its junctions with Manor House Way and Swan Street, will operate between Monday – Friday, 8.15 – 9.15am and 2.45 – 3.45pm, during school term time with exemptions for those who live within the zone, visitors to residents, those with disabilities with a blue badge, easily recognisable delivery vehicles (e.g. supermarket lorries), or school staff. The restriction will be enforced by the Council through the use of CCTV, which could be either mobile or fixed cameras.

  • New signs to enforce the access restrictions on North Street (between its junctions with Manor House Way and Swan Street)

Why are we proposing this?

The proposals form part of the Council’s commitment to promoting active travel (encourage children to walk, cycle and scoot to school), reduce pollution and improve safety outside the school.

What happens next

We’re unable to respond directly to every respondent, however all feedback will be summarised and presented to your ward councillors along with our recommendations. The outcome of the consultation will be available to view on the council’s website once a decision has been made, which is likely to be in Winter 22/23.
