Crane Park Primary School – School Streets

Closed 6 Nov 2022

Opened 10 Oct 2022

Overview

In recent years, the council has stepped up its efforts to tackle problems associated with traffic around schools at drop-off and pick-up times, notably road safety concerns, poor air quality and inconvenience to residents.

Following successful implementations of School Streets schemes in other parts of the borough, and discussions with Crane Park Primary School and local councillors, we are now consulting on a proposal to implement a School Streets scheme in your area.

The access restriction, which will cover the whole of Braid Close, Norman Avenue and Towfield Road, will operate between Monday-Friday, 8.15 – 9.15am and 2.45 – 3.45pm, during school term time, with exemptions for those who live within the zone, visitors to residents, those with disabilities with a blue badge, easily recognisable delivery vehicles (e.g. supermarket lorries), or school staff.

The restriction will be enforced by the Council through the use of CCTV, which could be either mobile or fixed cameras.

Why your views matter

What are we proposing?

The proposals include:

  • New signs to enforce the access restrictions on Braid Close, Norman Avenue and Towfield Road

Why are we proposing this?

The proposals form part of the Council’s commitment to promoting active travel (encourage children to walk, cycle and scoot to school), reduce pollution and improve safety outside the school.
