Traffic Management Proposals - New Road, Bedfont

Closed 6 Jul 2018

Opened 4 Jun 2018

Results Updated 4 Dec 2018

The New Road Traffic Management consultation was held in June 2018. The consultation showed broad support for the one-way proposal, and a Chief Officer Decision was made to carry out an 18-month trial of New Road being made one-way southbound. The trial is expected to commence in early 2019.

Your comments will be welcomed throughout the trial, ideally by emailing traffic@hounslow.gov.uk. An interim report will be provided to councillors during the trial, and we will provide a deadline for final comments ahead of a permanent decision being made.

Overview

We would like your views on possible changes to the way traffic can use New Road, Bedfont as a way of reducing the impact of through traffic.

We are consulting on New Road becoming one-way, either southbound or northbound, and with or without traffic calming. Your comments on the proposals are welcomed using the survey at the bottom of this page. If you need this information in an alternative format please contact us, and if you would like to view the proposals in more detail with council staff present, please come along to the drop-in session on 12 June, as detailed below at the bottom of this page.

Consultation feedback will be summarised and presented to Ward Councillors for consideration later in 2018. It is proposed that should the consultation show support for this, that a trial of up to 18 months be undertaken to monitor the impact on traffic in New Road and the surrounding area, and gather further information and feedback.

Background information

The council has received many concerns from New Road residents about the volume of traffic using the road as a through route between Hatton Road and Staines Road.

This matter was raised in a petition by residents and discussed at the Bedfont, Feltham and Hanworth Area Forum on 26 January 2017, where it was recommended that a 20mph speed limit should be implemented in the area. The 20mph zone will be implemented this year, with signs and road markings indicating the new speed limit.

At the Area Forum on 25 May 2017, it was agreed that we would carry out traffic modelling to investigate the possible impact of making the road one-way. Traffic surveys confirmed a high volume of through traffic in this area (further details of this can be found here Traffic survey data), so we would like your opinion on the proposals for one-way working on New Road. Two suggestions are shown on the plan at the bottom of this page:

1.  New Road to become one-way northbound from Staines Road along its entire length.

2.  New Road to become one-way southbound from Hatton Road along its entire length.

In addition to concerns about the volume of traffic using New Road, concerns have also been raised about traffic speeds. We would therefore also like to take this opportunity to ask your views on traffic calming on New Road in the form of speed tables. If support is shown, then the measures shown on the plan at the bottom of this page could be implemented alongside the one-way working.

Why We Are Consulting

We're carrying out this consultation in order to hear your views on the proposals. We welcome feedback and comments that can help inform our plans.
