Nishkam School Streets - Leigham Drive

Closed 30 Mar 2020

Opened 2 Mar 2020

Overview

In recent years, the council has stepped up its efforts to tackle problems associated with traffic around schools at drop-off and pick-up times, notably road safety concerns, poor air quality, and inconvenience to residents.

Following the implementation of Nishkam’s School Streets scheme in September 2018, we have identified Leigham Drive as a potential location to extend the existing scheme. Our proposal is based on comments from the previous consultation as well as more recent feedback we have received.

The proposed resident only access restrictions are shown on the drawing in the "Related" section below. These restrictions would prevent parents / guardians from dropping their children off on Leigham Drive from Monday to Friday between 7:45 – 9:15am and 2:45 – 4:15pm.

During these times, only vehicles Leigham Drive residents have registered with us (which is free of charge through a simple e-form) would be allowed to enter. Residents can register visitors' cars as well as their own. A Penalty Charge Notice would be issued to all other vehicles, and this would be enforced by an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera.

While the need to register vehicles presents a slight inconvenience to residents, feedback we have received to date suggests that the benefits to residents greatly outweigh any inconvenience.

It should also be noted the restriction would only apply to vehicles entering the road. If a resident or visitor were to park on the street overnight and leave in the morning, that would not fall foul of the proposed new restrictions.

There would be two cameras in place for this scheme, one at either end of Great West Road slip road. The preferred locations for these have been marked on the drawing below.

Why We Are Consulting

We would like as much feedback as possible from residents and all other interested stakeholders. We will summarise all consultation feedback for your local councillors, and if there is support for the proposal, we will aim to implement it in May 2020.
