Twickenham Road, Isleworth – Cycle Improvements – Ivy Bridge to Linkfield Road

Closed 20 Nov 2022

Opened 24 Oct 2022

We would like your views on proposals to improve cycling facilities in the above section of Twickenham Road, Isleworth. The proposed improvements aim to create a safer and more attractive route for cyclists.

What are we proposing?

The proposals are to:

  • Upgrade the existing advisory cycle lanes to mandatory cycle lanes;
  • Widen cycle lanes where space permits;
  • Introduce pole cones (sometimes known as traffic cylinders – an example can be seen in the ‘related documents’ section below) where space permits, to provide light segregation between cycles and motor traffic. Pole cones will be spaced to ensure access to the kerbside for loading activity and blue badge parking is maintained where required; and
  • Provide additional cycle logo road markings at side road and signal junctions, alongside on-street parking bays and bus stops, and in the carriageway where space does not allow for cycle lanes to be marked, such as on the approach to pedestrian refuge islands.

To see the scheme extent and proposals in more detail, please refer to the consultation drawings in the ‘Related’ section (see below).

Why are we proposing this?

Hounslow Council wants to create a healthy, accessible and enjoyable transport environment in the borough. We want to tackle poor air quality, and are committed to making cycling safer, easier, and more appealing for all.

To enable people who drive or use public transport to cycle, streets and cycleways must be well designed, clearly signed and continuous.

The proposals will compliment cycle improvements introduced between Busch Corner and Linkfield Road in 2020 to the boundary with London Borough of Richmond at Ivy Bridge, creating a continuous route for cyclists throughout the road.
