Overview

In recent years, the council has stepped up its efforts to tackle problems associated with traffic around schools at drop-off and pick-up times, notably road safety concerns, poor air quality, and inconvenience to residents. 

Following successful implementations of School Streets schemes in other part of the borough, and discussions with Westbrook Primary School and local councillors, we are now consulting on a proposal to implement a School Streets scheme in the vicinity of the school. 

The access restrictions will operate between Monday-Friday 8:15 – 9:15 am and 2:45 – 3:45 pm, with exemptions for those who live within the zone, visitors to residents, those with disabilities with a blue badge, easily recognisable delivery vehicles (e.g. supermarket lorries), or school staff.

Furthermore, to complement the school street restriction, and prevent obstructive parking on the neighboring main road, A3063 Upper Sutton Lane/Church Road and its junctions, we also propose to introduce red routes restrictions.  

Why your views matter

What are we proposing?  

The proposals include: 

  • New signs to enforce the access restrictions on Westbrook Road (between its junctions with Church Road and The Warren).

  • Double red line No Stopping “At Any Time“ restrictions on Church Road/Upper Sutton Lane, at their junctions with Old Park Mews, Sonia Gardens and Westbrook Road,  

  • Single red line No Stopping Monday – Friday 8.15–9.15am and 2.45–3.45pm restrictions  outside Nos. 69 – 77 Upper Sutton Lane. 

Why are we proposing this?  

The proposals form part of the Council’s commitment to promoting active travel (encourage children to walk, cycle and scoot to school), reduce pollution and improve safety outside the school.
